“Last year I did all the politicin’
This year I’m all focused on the vision” – The Weekend
I honestly have no idea what SDCC 2016 has in store for Nerd Coolture this year, but based on what I’ve experienced last year, I know that this year will be bigger and better. How can I be so sure? A few reasons:
- An Open Mind: Last year, I was amidst a transition between co-producing TOTL Podcast and birthing Nerd Coolture. All the while, I was open, just open to shaking hands, taking names, and keeping in touch with as many people as possible. Whoever stuck throughout time, would be the spaghetti that was ready (odd reference, but that’s how you know, you’re cooking right). This year, I can’t wait to see what unfolds with content, stimuli, and fellow nerds alike!
- Middle of the Grind: All of last year was such a high getting to know people and being so optimistic about the endless possibilities. Now it’s Year-2. Goals have been met with ease, and the think-tank runs low at times with “What now?” Now, I know that I’m in the thick of the nerd content grind. This is how I know I’m right where I need to be. Keep creating. Keep keeping on. Being hard pressed sometimes makes the purest content.
- Game of Bloggers Season 2: Last year, Tony Kim aka Crazy 4 Comic Con started an offsite event called “Game of Bloggers” where dozens and dozens of geeky bloggers, vloggers, podcasters, and other content creators packed out a restaurant to shake hands for the sake of combining forces and creating awareness of how awesome our creative community is. Well this year, it’s going to be even bigger and better. Here’s the skinny from Tony’s site:
Why Game of Bloggers? San Diego Comic-Con is so much more than just seeing an amazing show. It’s an opportunity to join forces with allies, meet revered social media warriors and forge new life changing alliances.
Overall, Game of Bloggers will be the perfect time to coordinate coverage or partner up with fellow content creators.
What I’m looking forward to most at SDCC and pretty much any con is meeting people. SDCC is just the culmination, the homecoming for everyone. It’s a mecca for newcomers and veterans alike. I know a lot of people have con fatigue, but this is one that I’m still yet to put on the back burner simply because of community events like Game of Bloggers. How often do you get to intentionally get together to combine geek forces and make the world a nerdier place? This is why I’m predicting a bigger better year for my SDCC experience, the people, the high level of nerdiness that will rise exponentially with intention and purpose. Also, Suicide Squad…but that’s for another time.
